The penultimate leg of Sailing Arabia – The Tour 2021 saw Team France extend their advantage with another victory. Sailing in the stunning environment of the old city of Muscat in waters close to Marina Bandar al Rowdha, the debuting French crew emerged victorious and leaving DB Schenker once again in second and Oman Sail in third. The fleet now moves to Al Mouj Muscat for the final and prize giving.
Team France now lead by six points and are closing in on the title. DB Schenker are second place and Oman Sail in third a further two points behind. Both teams will be looking to secure podium places in the last leg and must remain focused. The team representing Oman Investment Authority in fourth are still in contention for prizes, while Barceló Mussanah Resort, hosts of the first leg, remain in fifth with Nastro Rosa in sixth.
Akram Al Wahaibi, skipper of DB Schenker, said, “Yesterday we had three races and the wind was very good. The waves were very strong but we finished third overall, it was very good for us. We hope for strong wind today and to perform even better than yesterday. The racing was not easy because the wind was shifting. We will do our best today to finish strongly.”
Lara Granier onboard Team France, said, “We have had really good races these last few days. We are really enjoying Oman; the people are very welcoming and the venue is amazing. We are really happy to be here. We have had some good days on the water and some not so good races but we are doing well overall and the team is very pleased with the general performance. We hope to win some more races and keep going until the very end.”
The final leg begins on 3 December 2021 where there are plenty of points still to play for over two days of racing. The prize giving and closing ceremonies will take place on 5 December 2021 at Al Mouj Muscat.
The event is supported by national carrier Oman Air, OQ and the Barceló Mussanah Resort as official partners, and Be’ah as environmental supporter.
